act 3 notes

Act 3

Scene 1: Benvolio and Mercutio are in the stage, and Tybalt enters with some other Capulets. Tybalt and Mercutio start insulting each other and seem close to drawing swords, and Benvolio tries to calm them. Then Romeo appears later; Tybalt provokes a quarrel toward Romeo through calling him as a “villain,” but Romeo refuses the fight, and tries to be optimistic toward the Capulets. Mercutio becomes furious that Romeo refuses to fight, then he challenges Tybalt. Therefore, they begin to fight. Romeo tries to stop them, but Mercutio gets killed by Tybalt while the battle. Then, Romeo avenges Mercutio by fighting and killing Tybalt.

Scene 2: The nurse comes to Juliet and starts griefing that Romeo killed Tybalt and has been banished. The nurse curses him, but Juliet cuts the nurse off and thinks that he should protect Romeo since he is her husband, and also her loyalty and love are with him. Juliet tells the nurse to find Romeo and asks him to come to her room in order to complete their marriage. Fortunately, the nurse knows that Romeo is hiding at Friar’s church.

Scene 3: Romeo, hiding in Friar’s church, knows that he has banished. He is being depressed that he might have to live without Juliet. Additionally, Romeo believes that Juliet must think him as a murderer and tries to stab himself. But nurse stops him, and Friar tells Romeo to spend a night with Juliet and escape away to other place.

I think the scenes in act 3 were few of the turning points in the plot. Plot was pretty dramatic, and lot of things happened which made Romeo to be in critical situation. The plot of the story was pretty peaceful and hunundrum until Romeo kills Tyblat to avenge his friend Mercutio. Through Romeo killing Tybalt, the story goes to the climax since it affects to the death of the characters and the uneasy relationship between Romeo and Juliet. I think Romeo had to stop the fight between Mercutio and Tyblat, or participate into the battle with Mercutio and fight against Tyblat in order to prevent Romeo, Juliet, and Mercutio's death. Mercutio's death does not affect to only Mercutio himself, but it also influences the death of Romeo and Juliet. It makes me to think that Romeo is still so immature and young who only cares about his love but not the consequence of his movement.
Scene 4: The scene starting with the disscustion between capulet and Paris about Juliet and the tragedy of Tyblat's death. Capulets sugggests Paris to marry with Juliet. Paris promises to marry Juliet on Thursday, and he looks really overjoyed.

Scene 5: Romeo and Juliet stay together until morning when nurse says that Lady Capulet is approaching to Juliet's room. Lady Capulet enters, and starting blaming Romeo as the "traitor murderer" of Tybalt. Juliet seems she's agreeing with her, but actually she is expressing her love toward Romeo.
