My character is Laura, and I choose the scene in act 2 when Laura meets Jim and talks or dances with him. It is a really important scene especially to Laura since Laura has been changed, thinks differently about herself, and starts to open herself in front of man who she really likes. The scene starts after the dinner with whole  family members, and when Jim asks Laura that what has she done since high school in a room with only two of them. During their conversation, Jim encourages Laura tells her that she should think herself as superior in some ways, and gain more confidence. After Laura listens to Jim’s career story, she decides to show her glass collection to Jim and show her favorite unicorn glass, which represents that Laura has been encouraged by Jim and starts to open her heart to Jim. After Laura showing her glass collection, the song comes out from outside Paradise Dance Hall, and they dance together. However, Jim later knocks glass horse off the table and breaks the horn of unicorn, which foreshadows the tragic of the ending. Although Jim breaks one of Laura’s favorite glasses, Laura comforts him through saying that glass breaks so easily, and now the unicorn becomes same with all other horses. Getting impressed by Laura, Jim emphasizes to Laura how special she is, and tells that she is pretty in a different way from anyone else through pointing up that Laura is a blue roses. They kiss, but Jim soon refuses Laura from him as he realizes that he has been engaged with another woman. Although Laura later hears from Jim that he has another woman called Betty, she gives Jim a broken unicorn as a souvenir.

The scene between Jim and Laura interests me the most because the way that Jim advices to Laura strongly inspires me. As a same girl with Laura, I could stand in Laura's perspective and strongly feels her emotion through the conversation between Jim and Laura, especially when Jim notifies her how pretty she is and asks her to be more proud of herself instead of being shy and turning away with blushing. I think that I can be the one who can express Laura’s emotion most effectively, since this scene touches my heart  and I could feel both Jim and Laura in their perspectives.

I will play Laura, and Josh will play Jim. I think it can be challenge for me in some way since I should act a like girl who is insanely shy, who can not even look at others’ eyes streightly, and has a crippled leg. I have never acted a person who has some physical issue, so it might be one of my challenges to act as a Laura. The most important part of playing Laura would be show her difference, and emphasize the way that she changed before and after meet Jim. I would like to highlight her terrible shyness before, but start opens up and talks about herself to other people after gain confidence from Jim.

Literary analysis I would like to explore is Jim’s genuine care toward Laura and his influence into Laura’s life, and how Laura has changed throughout the scene and conversation with Jim. Although the ending is pretty tragic, I would like to more focus on their short but strong love and Jim’s impressive advice and words given to Laura. This scene is one of the most important parts throughout the whole book since it is the only chance for Laura to get married and escape from the same life, and it was also Amanda’s only hope toward Laura to meet a man who can really protect her and care for the whole life; however, Laura loses the chance. The scene powerfully describes the future of Laura and Amanda’s life that they have no hope anymore.
