IA proposal

1. The story would be the transition from the "The wall of fire rising" to "night woman".

2. I thought it would be interesting to focus on the wife's life, showing the alteration of her life before and after Guy dies. Through underlining her alteration, it would also reflect her love toward her son and harsh Haitian society.

3. Characters would be Little Guy, Guy, and wife.

4,5.  The plot would be the combination of 2 stories, but I would more highlight on the story after the Guy dies, how the wife's life has been changed and became a night woman, and I would further emphasize her transition from day to night, and how it affects to her son.
The story begins in the living room of the house, Guy and wife listening to the song that Little Guy has been learned from the school. After Little Guy leaves, they have a conversation about Little Guy's future and they start to argue since they draw a different picture on their mind. After the conversation, the story focuses on Guy's hope of balloon, by showing Guy's short monologue about his dream and showing him going to see balloon everyday. As the wife notices that it gets serious, she tries to persuade him to not go near the balloon, but the Guy is already obsessed with the balloon and telling her that he doesn't want to live like his father, and he wants to be remembered. This statement indicates the sense of the tragic, so I would put some sad background music with a dark red light on the stage. Soon later, they find out that Guy commits suicide and the plot changes to the story of night woman. I would show their life has been harsher and they become poorer by making their house smaller on the stage. After the Guy dies, the story draws her altered life as working as a night woman, and focuses on her transition from night to day, and day to night. Every night, she puts curtain to divide the room into two, and starts to work. However, she lies and attempts hard to keep her job secret to her son, since she doesn't want her son's life to be affected by her job, and she wants to protect his innocence. So the story strongly highlights the part when she decorates and changes herself at night, while her son's sleeping. To make this part more look like fantasy, I would put a a dreamy song in the background, and make wife to dances or shows some movement, showing she is getting prepared and changed as a night woman. However, the story would have a different ending with the original story, since the son realizes that her mom works a night woman. There would be a monologue of the son, showing his realization of her mom's sacrifice and devotion. However, he decides to pretend he doesn't know anything and believes her mom. At the end, there is a deep conversation between the mom and son, son saying that he already realized her job before and he shows his appreciation to her mom with big hug, and mom apologizing to her son that she hid her identity, and telling him the reason of doing that. Although the mom's job and identity have been revealed, the story still ends with happy ending with showing the sense of strong love between mom and son.
