Director's vision

I would focus on the love between two different social classes. I would emphasize the element of love, but the fact that they could not be together because Desiree is a peasant. In order to emphasize their different social status, I may have to stage wisely by arranging peasants and rich people in different areas, showing segregation and barrier between two. Not only about the social class, but also I want to focus on the gods, which affected to the novel a lot. I would put 4 gods on the bridge to express that their not humans, and they hugely affect to Desiree's life. So generally, the stage is divided into two, as one side is for peasants and the other for rich, and the bridge would connect two areas, where all the gods are standing. I would also say Desiree and Daniel would stand in the main area of the stage, and making them hold each others' hands to show the love despite of different social status. Also in the peasants part, I would put some nature elements like trees and grasses to emphasize pure side of peasants, whereas put cars in the rich side to show their different lifestyle. Furthermore, I would costume them differently by dressing peasants old dirty dress while dressing expensive silk clothings to rich.
