8: Desiree started the journey by walking across the wood. The animals were her friends, and she used candle while walking when it was dark. Then she met two girls who were also in the wood. When Desiree asked them if they know it is a right road leading to a castle of the Gabriel Beuxhomme, they didn't know who Daniel and Gabriel were, but they told how Black mountain was far from this place. She passed them, and kept walk. After walking and walking for such long time, there was a town. Near the marketplace, Desiree saw a woman on the street who looked like a begger, and asked if this was the right way to go to Black mountain. The woman indicated that it's very far and even asked to Desiree that why is she troubling herself. It reminded Desiree about the sentence that Tonton Julian had said before" That road is hard for men and mules. It might be death for girl." After taking a good rest and sleep, she felt so starving since there was a smell of frying pork. So Desiree walked over to a woman and asked if she had food to share. As woman knew that Desiree had no enough money to pay for the food, she refused to give food for free. But then, she felt some kind of sympathy and gave few of them to Desiree. The woman also emphasized that peasants should learn about patience.
9: Finally on the seventh day, she arrived to the place where forest and sea met. She slept, and when she awoke, she met a peasant girl. She was a young child who had no parents and suffering from hunger. Desiree asked if she had a wishing cage, and told her that it protects one's dreams and wishes. She also said there should be butterflies inside, and it's better when it's bigger and more beautiful, so that the wishes can all come true. Then Desiree kindly prayed for her wish to come true, and to arrive safely.
10:She finally arrived the the town. Everything was strange and amazing. There were roads, many cars, and women and men wearing silk clothings. She was surprised. She finally saw the castle where Daniel lived, but there were lot of sellers who were selling goods and also guards who were standing in front of gates. When Desiree was trying to go inside of the castle, sellers and guards made fun of her about the fact that she is a peasant, and she is not even wearing shoes. They called her as a pig, and never allowed her to go in. Desiree was shocked and ran away near the sea. Near the shore, there were few sellers who were selling shoes and clothes. Desiree went up to a man and asked to exchange shoes with her fruits. The man first disagreed since shoes were more costly than berries, but a woman next to him wanted to trade Desiree's fruits with her clothes since the fruits were very fresh. However, later after listening to Desiree's story about how she took care of Daniel, and she came all down here to meet him, the man agreed with exchanging the shoes with her fruits.
