If I were to stage the play, I might depict the Montagues and Capulets to show their similar class status and wealth but also showing recognizably difference and the grudge between two families through using variety of stage elements, costuming, body language and style of speaking. For their common class status, I would show their wealth and power through their costuming and background elements. I would let Montagues and Capulets to wear lot of fancy colorful clothes which can symbolize wealth and I would also show their huge houses during the scene in order to make audience able to assume their high class of status and the wealth. Not only costumes and stage elements, but also using elegant and graceful body language or tone of voice can be another way to show Montague and Capulet’s wealth. In order to show their difference, I can show a difference through dividing their costume color; as I see in the movie, giving difference in the costume actually helps lot to distinguish between the two families and represents their different power. For example, Montagues wear red and colorful costumes to reveal their aggressive and powerful personality while Capulets wear darker and more formal clothes which reveal their threatening power. I can also show their difference through showing different body language; like was in the movie, Capulets were more calm and elegant whereas Montagues were much louder, and active. Furthermore, I would like to show audience that they are enemies through adding fighting or battling scenes; for example, the battle from each family's’ servants or the fight between Prince and Romeo to possess Juliet can definitely reveal their grudge and hatred between the Montagues and Capulets.
