In our group, we choose Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, Tybalt, Nurse, Mercutio, Lady Capulet, Lord Capulet, Prince, and Paris as the most important characters in the plot. Romeo and Juliet are definitely the most important characters throughout the whole story, and Friar Lawrence, Nurse, Prince, Mercutio, and Paris are also as important as them who contained in the plot of the story. However, differently with my groupmates’ opinions, I think Montagues family should also be in the characters list instead of Benvolio since Montagues spend largely during the ending part of the story through realizing Romeo’s love toward the daughter from Capulets, and showing their repaired relationship with Capulets. In contrast, Benvolio does not really seem as a significant character in the plot, other than trying to stop the battle and to make the peaceful situation all the times. For the objects, we choose Romeo with Rose, since Rose symbolize his strong love toward Juliet. As Rose shows the love and passion, I think it will perfectly represent Romeo's mind. Juliet can be with wedding ring since the ring can represent their love and show how Romeo is important to Juliet. Furthermore, the ring can also show that Juliet already lost her purity, so it is another reason that Juliet cannot marry with Paris. For Friar Laurence, Bible will match since it represents he is a priest. The nurse will be with Apron so that it shows that she is a maid of Capulets. Additionally it can symbolize how much she cares about Juliet, and stand by her side. Tybalt goes with a black sword that represents his aggressiveness and desire to battle, while Mercutio goes with a yellow sword which expresses he as a fighter, but more like a playboy. Lady Capulet suits well with high heels which can reveal her luxury, and confidence showing that she thinks she is the best woman in the world. Lord Capulet will go with a Pink diamond ring in order to represent his wealthiness and high status. Prince will be with a crown to show his loyalty and absolute power, and Paris’ object should be a mirror which can show his beauty and confidence of his mind that he might think Juliet will definitely prefer the marriage with him. With these 10 characters and objects, our group will be able to act the plot well with revealing key characteristics of the characters.
If I have to cast our classmates into the play, I would choose Helen as a Juliet since I think her appearance matches to Juliet and she might able to act the change of her becoming more mature. I would ask Ivan or Joe to become as a Romeo because I think they can nicely act Romeo falling into Romeo, and the sadness and anger when he hears Juliet's death. I would cast David as a Friar Laurence since I saw he was acting Friar really well. For a nurse, I would definitely cast Nan, since her warm and nice personalities match to the nurse. I would cast Lesley as a Lady Capulet since she will able to act her confidence and luxurious well, and I would ask Josh to act Lord Capulet because I saw his acting of Lord Capulet before, and I thought he was really good at expressing the aggressiveness. For Tybalt, I would put Jamal, since he is so good at fighting and battling acts. Also, I will cast Nia as a prince since I think she will act well on making the peaceful situation, and I would put Joey as a Paris because I think that Joey is able to act battle or fight with Romeo.
