Last week, we had our first draft performance during class. The scene that I and Josh chose was the conversation between Laura and Jim, when Jim had been invited to Laura’s home and they started talking in the private room. In the scene, it was really important to Laura to show a significant change after talking to Jim, since Laura is really shy and modest girl, but she has been changed after encouraged by Jim. After acting my first draft, I got a lot of feedbacks from my classmates and I felt I need to fix some of my acting ways to be more seemed like Laura.
After reading through all the feedbacks and watching the first draft video, I strongly thought I was little quiet therefore the audience could barely hear me sometimes. Moreover both me and Josh should use whole whole stage, or act more widely that we can make the scene less boring and use the stage wiser. Although I am Laura, who is insanely shy and quiet girl, I better to show stronger body movement or voice changing with Josh, in order to describe our characters clearly. Furthermore, I should be more clear to show the significant change of Laura; she was terribly shy and quiet at the beginning so that she couldn't even stare at Jim very well, but she started to open herself after gaining confidence from Jim by showing her favorite unicorn and glass collection. While describing her changed personality, I would imagine myself as a Laura, and become more talkative and active than before; as Laura showing her strong change, it would build up to the stronger climax and clear variations. I thought both of me and Josh showed good connection between characters, but Josh could be more talkative and show stronger movement to clearly describe his affection toward Laura, and the personality difference between Jim and Laura. I showed lack of realistic speaking since I did not memorize all the lines during that time, but I can fix and act more realistically since I memorized most of lines after taking the quiz. Moreover I should more stay focused in character while acting Laura so that I can prevent laughing at the middle of performance and disrupt the connection with other character.
The remarkable emotion change of Laura will be the most difficult part of acting as a Laura. During 10 minutes, I should describe her change by acting insanely shy at the opening part, but start gaining confidence and developing love toward Jim, and getting disappointed at the last part since Jim has been engaged.
