Between the Pool and the Gardenias summary

The woman Marie is a maid who works for a wealthy family living in Petion Ville. While walking down the street, Marie saw a beautiful baby has been abondoned on the street; Marie thought that it was a gift from Heaven since she suffered from few failures before, and she brought her back to home. She decided to call the baby as "Rose." She did not cry or stir like other babies, but she smelled like gardenias and fish from the pool.
At home, Marie hided Rose while preparing food for masters. When she was done with her work, she laid Rose and told her about her life, especially about her failed marriage life driven by his husband's affairs with other women. She also told Rose about her relationship with the man who cleans the pool and even pretended like Rose was the baby of Marie and the pool cleaner.
However, Marie started to smell from Rose. So she bathed her several times a day and even put perfume on her but her smell got worse. Therefore she began to hide Rose behind the house, in a shack, and watched her body got decomposed.  Since the body attracted the flies, she decided to let her go. So she dressed Marie up with yellow dress, and went out to bury her; however when she put her on the ground and got ready to burn the body, the Dominican man came and told Marie that he knew she killed the baby. Then she was accused of eating little children.
