-combined the story of “The Wall of Fire Rising” and “Night Women” in the book Krik Krak by Edwidge Danticat.

-why they were appealing: reflected historical context (gap between different social classes, the way poor people are facing to the povertiness

-Showed general Haitian's life - also about the women’s life who had to go through without husbands)

-compare your adaptation with other stories

-night woman is not a fiction or unrealistic story, it is actually happening around us so frequently. From young teenage girl to old 50, 60s women)

-feel empathetic to a teenage mom Lili since she has to sacrifice and be responsible to take care of her son. I felt empathetic but also respected in the aspect of her giving up on her life and trying to support her son despite she's a teenager, who is not even totally grown up yet.

- huge devotion reminded of my mom ( think of me more than herself, \\ always stands up for me)

- Hoping to stand and speak in their perspective , understand the harsh society- uneducated poor people's hard life

-The theme: misery, love, sacrifice, and understanding.
-Focused more on two characters- LIli, little Guy : they showed extreme povertiness in Haiti
-Explain about Guy
-Before Guy died, working on sugarmill, living in poor neighborhood
-Guy was indifferent about family, becasue he cared mostly about reaching his dream
-He had argument with LIli often, because they had different opinions about LIttle Guy's future
-At the end he chose to commit suicide after reaching his dream- represents indifferent toward family
-After he died, Lili become prostitute, she hided the fact to protect LIttle's innocence and immaturity.
-She comforted him by referring angel, and also highlighted going to school and be educated to prevent his miserable life

-All the comfort and lies represented the theme of love and motherhood.

-However, the conflict occurred where Lili get caught by Little Guy while dancing with the guest
-Little GUy woke up and peeked through the curtain that they were having an affair

- Little Guy was firstly upset, and asked LIli for the truth.
-Lili explained everything, how the job maintained their lives. After knowing, he understood and appreciated to Lili- to fact that she sacrificed for him

-most important theme: sacrificing- the whole adaptation was based on her devotion and sacrifice that she has made
-Scenes well showed their miserable life after father's death, as well as the theme of love, support, and understanding between two characters.

-Personally I thought the life of them after Guy's death is more important  

-showed Guy's death in the beginning very briefly by LIli screaming toward his dead body
-two characters were enough to cover scenes

-Me as lily, kept referred Guy as an angel to indicate his death to son
-I emphasized little Guy to be educated and learned to represent Lili's dream which is LIttle Guy becoming successful and avoiding poverty 

-In the original book, the story supposed to end with Little Guy being ignorant about her mom's job.
-However, we thought it is important that Little Guy realizing the harsh reality and the fact that how mom has been through tough times to support his future. Therefore, we revised the original scene and added a new story where Little Guy is peeking her mom’s night job through the curtain.
-Dancing scene, represnts her job as prostitute.
-For romantic mood- jazzy songs
-After Little GUy realizing,he got shocked but soon realized her devotion, the story ended up him forgiving and appreciating Lili.

-If the original book ended without any specific conclusion, we made the highlighting ending scene where Little Guy figuring everything out.

4. Highlighted on expressing emotion, so we tried hard to show variety of facial expression

-voice tone change. Such as in the beginning part, I screamed to give a strong impact of Guy’s death.

-Eye contact with a partner- to communicate and make a good chemistry between characters/ to see when the partner’s line’s over. Especially in the ending part, the eyecontact between characters were very important since it represented reconciliation and the love between LIli and Guy.

-Using props and gestures to show Lili getting prepared to meet night guest(such as perfume, necklace, and mirror with makeup sets) The props helped showing Lili’s desire to be beautiful as a woman, and also representing her job during the night .

-The body movement (pointing partner while reading monologue) , especially during my monologue, I kept pointed Little Guy, to represent the aspects of motherhood and unconditional scarification that she has been made.

-Moving position of the stage (talk close to the audience in downstage during monologue to emphasize myself toward the audience)

-Divided room into two- representing segregation between mom and son, mom’s secret and night work

-Control lighting to create mood or environment of the scene (red-climax, blue-relaxing)

-How the end was contrasting to rest of the scene (where all the tensions are over and Guy realizing Lili's huge devotion toward him)

-To highlight the happy ending, the performers ended with them standing close together, showing their reconciliation, understanding, and love to each other.  By showing the ending scene, where everything became peaceful and relaxing, audience would understand that all the conflicts are over and Little Guy finally understood his mom.

5. Improvement:

-Voice tone louder

-Need more variety face expressions, more animated

-Should have been adding more songs to the background (such as during LIli’s changing scene before the guest comes in or during Liil’s monologue part)

-Nice general performance, good chemistry between characters

-Nice eye contacts(in the end,  and performance with partner

-How the end was contrasting to the rest of the scene (where all the tensions

7.-Learned about Haitian culture, historic background (the fact that women couldnt even be educated)

-Different social treatment between men and women - if it was about a man’s life without wife, it would have been so much better.

-Learned life of the woman who has kid but not husband  - even more poor and miserable

- learned on how to stand on character’s perspective and think in their ways while performing

-reminded of my family, realized the preciousness of my family, especially to my mom who always cares about me. In the epilogue part of the book krik krak, there is a line saying “Your mother had two rules for living. Always use your ten fingers, which in her parlance meant that you should be the best little cook and housekeeper who ever lived.” The line emphasized again about the devotion that all moms make around the world, showed that how hard is to be a good mom.  It was an opportunity for me to think about my hopeful life and importance of mom.
