Footlose review

On Wednesday, February 27th, I watched Cheshire Academy musical “Footloose” in the black box. “Footloose” was written by Dean Pitchford, and directed by Herbert Ross.

Footloose is a musical play that is very related to high school students. It is a story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother moved to a small town in Bomont after his father left them. After arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with the town, Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has outlawed dancing in the town, which made Ren feels unbelievable and ridiculous about it. With the help of the Ariel, who is Reverend’s daughter, and Willard, who later becomes Ren’s best friend, Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and he further helps the town to heal from a tragedy that influenced them.

I watched most of the Cheshire Academy varsity production of the musical, but I think “Footloose” was one of the best musicals. First of all, it was based on highschool story which lot of high schoolers can relate to, so I could feel the characters in my perspective very well. Also I really liked the new set up and the staging structure; since it increased the size of the main stage, it was easier for audience to watch the whole stage. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the beginning part of the musical, where everyone danced. As a person who likes high tempo of music, it was very fun to watch and I even felt excited about it. Especially the scenes where stella and other characters had dance battle and had their own dance choreography was great. The general atmosphere of the performance was energetic, vital, and dynamic. I also liked the songs and the collaboration of different voices sounded fancy and harmonic. I think the song was also a role of character’s emotion; the rhythm or tempo of the songs created different environment and moods of the scenes.  I also liked the prop, such as the ladder that they had used. The ladder during the performance has been greatly improved the mood of romance and musical. I think there was not any noticeable mistake or accident made by the performers, I just want to praise their great harmony. The stage light All elements of stage lights, music, performers’ voices, and songs that they sang were flawlessly collaborated well and created a great performance. I can’t wait to watch for the next musical!!
